Victor Zheng

This work was uniquely eye-opening for me – as someone focused mainly on the Western Romantic concept of absolute music during the bulk of my musical upbringing, I’ve always tended toward the abstract in my compositions as far as source materials and concepts go. As such, opera was something I never organically encountered as a composer, not out of any dislike or grudge, just being generally outside my creative and scholarly focus.

That’s what made being part of this project such a refreshing experience as Felipe showed me what he could really do harnessing electronics to enhance a narrative. Helping create some of the effects that he envisioned, I felt like a passenger on some wondrous journey, the likes of which I’d never experienced before.
